In eigener Sache: Greylisting und zurückgewiesene Mails (Update)
Unser eigener Webserver wurde versuchsweise auf ein — zunächst sehr aggressives — Greylisting umgestellt, das in Einzelfällen die Folge haben könnte, dass einige legitime Emails nicht bei uns ankommen.
Beim Greylisting wird eine eingehende Nachricht zunächst mit einer temporären Fehlermeldung für knapp 15 Minuten zurückgewiesen. Nach dieser Viertelstunde probiert es der Mailserver erneut und wird dann für das Warten belohnt. Die Kombination aus Absenderadresse, IP-Adresse des Mailservers und Empfängeradresse landet dann auf einer weissen Liste, die mehrere Wochen vorgehalten wird. Über 90% Spam kann so bereits effizient zurückgewiesen werden, da Spambots meist weder Warteschlangen pflegen noch allzulange von einer IP-Adresse aus arbeiten.
Die erste Mail kommt folglich mit ca. 30 Minuten bis drei Stunden Verspätung an, folgende Mails ohne Verzögerung. Ein kleines Problem sind die auf mehrere Server verteilte Mailsysteme einiger großer Provider wie Arcor, bei denen verschiedene Zustellversuche von verschiedenen Servern stattfinden. Hier versagt das Greylisting, ich muss die betreffenden Server von Hand auf eine Positivliste setzen.
Ab Kalenderwoche 34 wird ein Webformular bereitstehen, mit dem sie melden können, wenn Sie den Verdacht haben, dass eine legitime Mail nicht ankam. Wenn das Greylisting “eingeschliffen” ist, werden wir diese Maßnahme nach Rücksprache mit unseren Kunden auch auf deren Servern als Teil der Spam-Vermeidung implementieren.
Update: Die Auswertung der Logfiles der vergangenen Woche zeigte keine besonderen Auffälligkeiten. Lediglich Laufzeiten einzelner Mails von bis zu vier Stunden sind tagsüber nicht akzeptabel. Das Greylisting wird deshalb im Laufe dieser Woche etwas “entschärft”.
